A Message from the President

2020-21 Fall/Winter season:

Dear East Marietta Basketball Families,

After a tremendous amount of discussion, work, negotiation, and creativity we will be opening our fall registration on September 1st.CAREFULLY READ HOW THIS SEASON WILL BE DIFFERENT. We will be reducing the number of teams by as much as 27% per age group, so absorb this critical information and then sign up promptly. This is “first come first in”, so with fewer teams there will be a limited wait list that will be small and capped. If you plan to volunteer to coach, reach out to your commissioner now as we will have fewer slots.

We have carefully studied the required safety measures and consulted with health care professionals. We are trying to create as safe of an environment as possible andthese rules will be strictly enforced. These procedures were very effective during our summer session and we need your help and cooperation to make this season a success. ALL other Cobb County Recreational programs have cancelled their season this fall/winter. These safety measures are what it takes to have basketball.

  1. Only playing in two gyms, Fullers Park and Fair Oaks Rec Centers. Two thirds of all practices and games will be at Fair Oaks. You will have 2-3 weeknight games during the season.
  2. Tryouts will be by reservation when you sign up and only coaches and players are allowed in the gym.Participation will be based on sign up orderso review this document carefully to make sure you understand your obligations and restrictions before signing up.
  3. No one is allowed at practices except coaches (limit of 3) and players. Yes, you are waiting outside or sitting in your car or running errands.
  4. Only 1 person per player allowed to attend games and must have full face mask on over both your nose and mouth at all times. NO siblings, second parent, etc. (we have limits on how many people can be in each gym at a time). No seating will be available at the gyms so bring a chair. We will broadcast all games on YouTube for family to view.
  5. No one allowed in earlyto practices and games as we will fully clear the gyms after each game before next group comes into the gym. So when done with practice/game, leave gym promptly.
  6. All games will be broadcast on YouTube so you are signing a waiver to allow your child to be in those videos/pictures. Otherwise you aren’t playing.
  7. You agree you will not send your child to a practice or game while exhibiting any symptoms of illness, or if they have been exposed to anyone who has been ill. EMBB should be promptly informed of all potential COVID-19 diagnosis and you will be agreeing to promptly share testing results with a designee of East Marietta Basketball.Due to the nature of the pandemic, results of any positive tests or persons required to be under quarantine WILL be shared with impacted teams, players and coaches.
  8. Any documented COVID-19 cases will result in specific game cancellations for impacted teams with no makeup game rescheduled.
  9. We will comply with any additional restrictions placed on us by Cobb County or the State of Georgia regarding playing, masks/PPE, etc.

Details of fall/winter season:

We have Fullers Park and Fair Oaks Rec Center for the coming season. That is it.Two thirds of your games and practices will be at Fair Oaks, so more driving than previous seasons.

We will have two sessions, Session 1 and Session 2.

Session 1 will be an 8 game season for U10 boys, U12 boys, and U10 girls. Tryouts will be the first week of October with practices starting on Oct. 10th. The single elimination tournaments for these age groups will be 12/9-12/15.

Session 2 will be a 7-8 game season for U14 boys, U18 boys, U13 girls, and U18 girls. Tryouts will be the first week of December and practices will start 12/12. Games will be in January and February, with the single elimination tournament 2/5-2/12.

Tryouts are mandatory. When you register you will select a reserved time for your player(s). We will minimize the number of staff to administer the tryout and broadcast it on YouTube. No one is allowed in the gym except the players that have appointments. No parents, siblings, anyone in the gym. Don’t come too early. Players will only be invited into the gym when we are ready for their group. All players will be temperature scanned prior to admittance. We will review their skills in 16 player increments with as much social distancing as is practical. They should wear their jersey from last fall so that we can avoid sharing tryout jerseys. The tryouts will be on YouTube so even coaches’ attendance at tryouts is optional.

Practices. Everyone will be temperature scanned before entering the building. Only coaches and players are allowed in the gym. The gyms will be cleared after each practice before the next group enters. There will be one entrance and where possible a different exit. At Fullers Park you come in the front door and exit by the side door nearest the football field.

Games. No one is allowed into the gym early. You will be required to wait outside or in your car no matter what the weather. Everyone will be temperature scanned before entry. Only 1 person per player will be admitted to the gym (so no second parent, siblings, friends, grandparents, etc.) so plan accordingly. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR OTHER CHILDREN in the car while you watch a game. (This actually happened in July.) All games will be broadcast on YouTube for your family to enjoy. We have to operate this way to comply with Cobb County and/or state of Georgia rules.

Waivers. You are signing a number of waivers and acknowledgements during the online registration. Please read and understand each item carefully.

We are doing the very best we can in a very difficult situation. Please thank your commissioners and coaches often as this season will be more work than ever. It is very challenging to provide some normalcy to our players’ lives by playing basketball while balancing and respecting the health issues we face with this pandemic. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reread this document, write down your tryout slot when you register and put it in your calendar.

Please stay safe, wear your mask in public, and together we can end this pandemic.

Additional General Specifics about EMB Registration and Season

In order to keep up our level of success, we still need more VOLUNTEERS to COACH as well as ADMINISTRATE.  Feel free to step up and be part of our next great season!! We also graciously welcome any funds through sponsorship support and continually rely on your charitable contributions to our Joyce Fox Scholarship Fund. Please check the box while registering to contribute in order to help those that cannot afford to play.

Our fees go to gym rentals,  referees, uniforms, trophies, basketballs, and operating expenses. We have exceeded our capacity for the past 6 years and had to turn away over 70 players, so SIGN UP EARLY to get a spot to play.

TRYOUTS/EVALS are conducted for coaches to judge each players' abilities and thus equalize the teams. All teams in EMBL are drafted with PARITY as the ultimate goal.

As in years past, we have 2 different skill levels (Division 1 and Division 2) for ALL the BOYS groups (10U, 12U, 14U, and 18U.) Division 1 is generally comprised of the more skilled boys (TOP 20%) in the age group as they are older, bigger, stronger and faster. Both divisions are equally competitive.

Please go to the online registration section and follow instructions to complete the registration process. A CREDIT CARD is required for payment. Please contact the COMMISSIONER of your age group with any questions.  Registration is a two part process (registering your son or daughter, then selecting a Tryout slot on SignUp Genius).  You can select the hour and session you’d like your child to attend tryouts!

Refunds will only be given if EMBL is notified PRIOR to our DRAFTS (forming of the teams). There will be a charge of $3.00 withheld from the refund for a processing fee.

Here at East Marietta, our LEAGUE Objective is to foster KEEN, but FAIR competition, while building character within the boys and girls. Together with YOUR HELP, we are dedicated to maintaining the standard of quality that has been established over the past 49 years!
